The JESUS Film Ministry
There are over seven billion people living in the world today. Each and every one of these individuals needs to hear of God’s saving power, and experience the loving transformation of God in their hearts and lives.
Since 1997, JESUS Film Harvest Partners (JFHP) has helped to spread the Good News of Jesus by showing the JESUS film to more than 15 million people throughout 139 countries.
JFHP is a Kingdom-building ministry devoted to world evangelism through the JESUS film and other orality tools. JFHP equips and supports JESUS Film teams to do evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. JESUS Film teams consist of local people who have heard and accepted the gospel and are now compelled to share it with their neighbors, friends, families, and anyone they can reach. They sacrifice much as they often travel all day to reach the most remote villages.
Based entirely on the Gospel of Luke, the JESUS film has been reaching new hearts for more than 30 years. The film has been translated into more than 1,600 languages to minister to people in their heart languages – the language they use in everyday conversation and in their homes. This enables JESUS to reach them on a familiar level, one that lets them know Jesus Christ cares for every heart, no matter the dialect.
How Does it Work ?
On average, one JF team shows the film about 8–10 times per month. Most showings take place in the evenings after dark, both for lighting purposes and to include those who work during daylight. Often the area is so remote that the teams need to carry a generator with them.
The normal procedure for showing the JESUS Film in a village starts with the JF team members visiting the village chief to build rapport and ask for his permission to show the film. When permission is granted, they arrange a showing, invite people, and show the film at a convenient location in the village.
About 24 – 48 hours later, the JF team revisits the village and meets for a first follow-up with those who made a decision or any who want to learn more. A variety of “Ministry Tools” such as Evangecubes, Bible Story Cloths and Bible Soccer Balls allow the teams to share and illustrate the gospel in a practical and comprehensible way. In the weeks that follow, they keep on visiting the new Christians, establish a preaching point, and continue to nurture the group until it develops into a church-type mission with a lay leader, and is finally organized as a church with a pastor.
A Ministry with Tremendous Impact
In South Asia, the impact of the JESUS Film ministry on church growth has been tremendous. The most recent strategy aims at organising 10 new churches per team per year.
In the last 5 years, nearly 5.5 million evangelistic contacts have been made. Of those, 1.48 million people have made a decision for Christ. Eight-five percent of these new believers received initial disciple follow-up, and more than 11,600 preaching points have been planted.
